External Scholarships

External scholarships are provided by organizations, individuals, or businesses outside of Sonoma State University. These scholarships should be reported to the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office so we can make sure they show as anticipated aid on your account and fit into the rest of your financial aid award. Failure to do so could result in us requiring you to repay some or all of your need-based financial aid.

External Scholarship Resources

External scholarships have varying requirements and deadlines, so make sure to review their application information carefully. This information is provided as a convenience for students. SSU neither makes any recommendations or endorsement of the scholarships listed. Before applying to any opportunities you find, keep the following in mind:

  • Scholarships do not typically ask for your social security number
  • You should not have to pay money to submit your application
  • Trust your gut; if it seems fishy it probably is
  • The FTC website has more on how to avoid scams
