External Scholarships
External scholarships are offered by organizations, foundations, businesses, and individuals outside of Sonoma State University. If you receive an external scholarship, please notify the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office so it can be added as anticipated aid on your student account and appropriately coordinated with your full financial aid package.
Not reporting external scholarships may result in adjustments to your need-based aid, including the possibility of repaying some or all funds already disbursed.
External Scholarship Resources
External scholarship opportunities vary widely in eligibility requirements, award amounts, and deadlines, so be sure to carefully review all application details provided by each organization.
These resources are offered for student convenience. SSU does not endorse or recommend any specific scholarship provider. Before applying, always keep the following guidelines in mind:
Tips for Staying Safe When Applying
- Legitimate scholarships do not typically ask for your Social Security number during the application process.
- You should not have to pay money to apply for or receive a scholarship.
- Trust your instincts and if an opportunity seems suspicious, it probably is.
Visit the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) website for more information on identifying and avoiding scholarship scams.
